Am găsit ceva interesant să vă scriu, mă rog ca Dumnezeu să facă ca aceste rânduri să fie cu folos pentru câți mai mulți.

Într-o veche poveste din Asia se vorbește despre un bărbat care toată viața sa a râvnit la aur. Într-o zi a mers la un târg de bijuterii; văzând atâta aur strălucind în jurul său, a pus mâna pe cât a putut prinde cu degetele și a fugit. După ce l-au prins, oamenii legii l-au întrebat: „Cum ai putut să furi aurul altcuiva, ziua în amiaza mare, cu atâția oameni de față?” Acel om înrobit de dorința de a se îmbogăți a răspuns: „Când am ajuns la aur, am văzut doar aurul. Nu am văzut nici un om.”

Cât de mare trebuie să fi fost dorința mea de a avea aurul încât nu am mai văzut nimic și pe nimeni? Aurul e bun dacă este câștigat cinstit, dar chiar și așa, aurul nu dă viață; este Altcineva care poate să dea viața și o dă din belșug.

În rândurile ce urmează, veți găsit scris despre El. Slăvit să fie Numele Său!

Mulți dintre cei care ispășesc pedepse privative de libertate ar putea spune la fel ca acel chinez din povestea noastră: „Am văzut doar aurul!” sau doar euro, sau doar dolarii, doar milioanele de lei noi etc.

Ne amăgesc oamenii zilnic, făcându-ne să credem că fericirea, bucuria și liniștea o putem dobândi doar printr-o stare materială bună. Eu am fost amăgit astfel, colegii mei deținuți care au fost polițiști, oameni de afaceri, politicieni, funcționari publici au fost la fel amăgiți și făcuți să creadă că doar „aurul” îi poate împlini.

De câteva zile mi-a venit un coleg nou, un om absolut normal, cu o familie frumoasă, cu o afacere care, cel puțin când era el liber, mergea foarte bine. Avea mai mult decât îi trebuia și, totuși, pentru a dobândi mai mult, s-a băgat într-o afacere dubioasă, a încercat să mituiască pe cineva, a fost prins, judecat și condamnat. Acum stă ore în șir și se gândește de ce a renunțat la familie, la afacere, la libertate, la confortul său de afară, pentru a primi în schimb un pat de fier într-o cameră în care deținuții se calcă în picioare datorită supraaglomerării.

Ce ar putea să îl facă pe un om să renunțe la toate cele enumerate  mai sus? Un om normal la cap ar spune: „Pentru nimic în lume nu aș lăsa soția și copiii” și totuși, zi de zi sunt afară oameni care riscă pușcăria pentru ani grei fără să se gândească la ce lasă în urmă dacă vor fi prinși. Sunt oameni de afaceri, funcționari publici, doctori chiar, care în fiecare zi strâng din dinți, încrucișează degetele în speranța că va mai merge și de data aceasta.

Aurul este cel care i-a făcut pe cei mai mulți să renunțe la tot ce au avut mai drag și scump, pentru a primi un pat de fier aici, în penitenciar. Tot aurul face ca zilnic, mulți oameni să zică în sinea lor: „Pe mine nu are cum să mă prindă!” sau „Relațiile mele sunt prea tari pentru a fi prins”.

Trebuie să vă spun că exact la fel a gândit și acest nou coleg al meu. Întrebându-l de ce a riscat când are o familie atât de frumoasă și avea o situație atât de bună, mi-a răspuns în multe cuvinte, însă, o concluzie la răspunsul său ar fi: „Am văzut doar banii.”

Vă spun din experiență că, în momentul în care diavolul încearcă să te amăgească făcându-te să privești doar la aur, în perversitatea lui niciodată nu îți va arăta și reversul medaliei. Când ochii îți sunt acaparați de strălucirea „aurului”, nu mai  vezi nimic din ceea ce ai lângă tine. Nu îți mai vezi copiii jucându-se și soția care te așteaptă seara, nu mai vezi părinții și frații care te iubesc nespus, nu mai poți vedea mare lucru pentru că strălucirea a ceea ce diavolul îți spune că trebuie să ai musai, îți acoperă ochii.

Dacă diavolul ar arăta oamenilor și reversul medaliei atunci când le pune „aurul” în fața ochilor, cred că cel puțin penitenciarele din România nu ar mai avea o problemă cu supraaglomerarea. Însă el minte, pentru că la asta se pricepe cel mai bine. Domnul Isus a spus despre diavol că este „tatăl minciunii”, de aceea, oricât de isteți credem că suntem, putem fi amăgiți foarte ușor dacă nu stăm aproape de Mântuitorul Hristos.

De unde știu aceste lucruri? Știu pentru că ani de zile la rând, neavând o relație personală cu Dumnezeu, am fost amăgiți de vrăjmaș. Când auzeam de vreo combinație sau de vreo metodă de făcut bani mai ușor, îmi sclipeau ochii ca la licurici. Nu aveam niște reguli la care să mă raportez pentru că nu cunoșteam „o iotă” din Biblie, deci drumul spre a agonisi cât mai mult era liber. Încurajat de mersul societății în care trăim, nu era mai nimic care să mă facă să îmi iau privirea „de la aur”.

Goana „după aur” m-a adus, în cele din urmă, într-un penitenciar pentru câțiva ani. Eu mă consider un caz fericit pentru că, în mila Sa nespus de mare, Dumnezeu mi-a deschis ochii spre o realitate total diferită de ceea ce trăiam în trecut, o realitate în care „aurul” nu este pe primul loc, nici măcar pe al doilea sau al treilea. De fapt, cred că Împărăția lui Dumnezeu nu este despre aur, despre agoniseala lucrurilor materiale, ci despre dragoste, despre familie, despre respect, despre iubirea celor ce te înconjoară, despre iertarea celor ce îți greșesc, despre pace, despre împăcare, despre multe lucruri extraordinar de frumoase, lucruri la care nu priveam în trecut pentru că „vedeam doar aur”.

Cei care nu-L cunosc pe Dumnezeu nu au o scuză pentru că ar trebui îndată să lase tot și să caute pe Cel ce i-a creat și le-a dat viață pentru ca legând o relație cu El, să primească acel „set de reguli” după care să-ți ghideze viața – adică Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu.

Vreau să închei această scrisoare cu o întrebare. Dacă cei care nu cunosc pe Dumnezeu nu au nici o scuză, ne spune apostolul Pavel în Romani 2:18-21: „Ce se întâmplă cu cei din bisericile evanghelice care, măcar că cunosc Adevărul, totuși, văd doar <>?” Este o întrebare de meditație, o întrebare prin care nu doresc să supăr, ci să trag un semnal de alarmă, dacă vreți.

Lumea, prin mersul ei, ne îndeamnă să privim „doar către aur”, pe de o parte, Dumnezeu ne îndeamnă să privim spre Altcineva – spre Acel Cineva care poate da viață.

Am găsit un verset în Sfânta Scriptură pentru a întări ceea ce zic: „Să ne uităm țintă la Căpetenia și Desăvârșirea credinței noastre, adică la Iisus, care, pentru bucuria care Îi era pusă înainte, a suferit crucea, a disprețuit rușinea și șade la dreapta scaunului de domnie a lui Dumnezeu” Evrei 12:2.

Scriu pentru că vreau ca toți să știe că în Iisus Hristos nu mai există „goană după aur”, goană după bani, după poziție socială, după funcții, ci după „neprihănire, pace și bucurie în Duhul Sfânt” Romani 14:17.

Alegeți să aveți privirea îndreptată spre ceea ce merită cu adevărat.

et. Seeing so much shining gold, he reached out his hand and grabbed as much gold as he could. After he was caught, the officials asked him, “How could you attempt to steal that gold, in broad daylight, with so many people around you?” The man, enslaved by the desire to become rich, answered, “When I got so close to the gold, I saw only the gold. I didn’t see all the people around me.”
I had to ponder, “How great was my desire for gold that I saw nothing else and no one else!” Gold is good if it is earned through honest work, but even so, gold does not give life. There is only One that can give life, and He gives it abundantly.

Many of those who are imprisoned could say as the Chinese man said, “I saw only the gold!” (or only the euros, the dollars, or the millions of lei, etc.).
People deceive us daily, making us think that happiness, joy, and peace can only be obtained by a sterling material status. I was deceived in this way, and so were my other roommates that were once policemen, businessmen, politicians, or other officials. They were all deceived just as I was, thinking that only “gold” could bring them fulfilment.
A few days ago a new roommate arrived. He is an absolutely normal man, with a beautiful family and a business which was going well (at least when he was a free man). He had more than enough, and yet, in order to gain more, got involved in shady business dealings, eventually trying to bribe somebody, but was caught, tried, and convicted. Now he reflects for hours and hours, wondering why he gave up his family, his business, his liberty, the comforts of a free man, all these for an iron bed in a cell so crowded that prisoners step on one other.
What could make a man give up all the valuables listed above? A normal man would say, “There is nothing in this world that would make me give up my wife and children.” And yet, everyday there are people out there that risk a lengthy prison sentence without thinking too much of what they would leave behind if they were be caught. Daily there are businessmen, officials, even doctors that nervously clench their teeth and cross their fingers, hoping that they will again get by.
Gold is the thing that made many of them surrender everything they treasured and loved for an iron bed, here, in prison. Also, gold is what made people think, “They have no way of catching me!” or “I have too many significant connections to be caught.”
I must tell you that my new roommate said the same thing. I asked him why he risked so much when he had such a beautiful family and such a favorable material status. He gave me a long answer, but in summary his answer would be, “I saw only the money.”
I can tell you from experience that when Satan tries to deceive you by making you look only at the gold, he will never, in keeping with his corrupt nature, show you the other side of the coin. When your eyes are caught by the shiny “gold”, you do not see anything else that is around you. You do not see your children playing or your wife waiting for you in the evening. You do not see your parents and siblings that love you so greatly. You do not see many things, because the glitter of what Satan says you must have covers your eyes.
If Satan would show people the other side of the coin when he lays “the gold” before their eyes, I believe that the prisons, at least in Romania, would not have a problem with being overcrowded. But he lies because that is his specialty. The Lord Jesus said that Satan is the “father of all lies”; therefore, no matter how smart we think we are, we can easily be deceived if we do not walk closely with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
How do I know this? I know it because for years, not having a personal relationship with God, I was deceived by the enemy. My eyes were shining like fire-flies whenever I heard of a new and easier way to make money. I had no rules to follow since I knew nothing of the teachings of the Bible, so the way to acquire more was unobstructed. Encouraged by the society in which we live, there was nothing that could encourage me to take my eyes off the “gold.”
In the end, “the gold rush” took me to prison for a few years. I consider myself to be in a happy situation because, in His great mercy, God opened my eyes to a totally different reality than before. It is a reality in which “gold” does not occupy the first place, not even the second, nor the third. Actually, I believe that God’s Kingdom is not about gold, nor about gaining riches, but rather about love, family, respect, loving our neighbor, forgiving those who wrong us, about peace, about reconciliation, and about many other amazing things, things that I did not see before, because I was seeing only the gold.
Those that do not know God do not have an excuse for what they do, because they ought immediately to leave everything and seek the Creator and Giver of life, so that through a relationship with him, they could receive that “set of rules” to use as a guide for their life – the Word of God.
I would like to finish this post with a question, “If those that do not know God have no excuse, as the apostle Paul says in Romans 2:18-21, what will happen to those in the evangelical churches who know the truth, and yet they see only “the gold”?” This is a question upon which to ponder. It is not my desire to offend anybody, but rather – if you wish – to warn.
On one hand, the world, by its works, urges us to look only “at the gold”; on the other hand, God urges us to look to Somebody else – to the One who can give life.
I found a verse in the Scripture that reinforces what I said: “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2)
I write, because I want everyone to know that in Jesus Christ there is no “gold rush,” “money rush,” “position rush,” but only “righteousness rush,” “peace rush,” and “joy rush” in the Holy Spirit (Romans 14:17).
Choose to fix your eyes only on the things that are truly worthy.
